ANNOUNCEMENTS

Ash Wednesday is a day of Fast in the Episcopal Church.  Please join us for services this coming Wednesday, February 22nd.

Pilgrimage to Israel.  On February 26th, Deb and I will join Bishop Beckwith, along with fellow clergy and a couple clergy spouses for a pilgrimage to the holy land. The difference between a pilgrimage and a tour, is that in a tour one goes to “see” whereas on a pilgrimage one goes to “experience”. We will fly from Newark to Tel Aviv (where my parents were married in 1947) arriving the following morning and immediately hitting the road going to Herod’s city—Caesarea on the Mediterranean coast, visit the plain of Megiddo (Armageddon), climb Mount Carmel then head to a Kibbutz on the Sea of Galilee where we will stay for our first four nights. From there will spend a day in Nazareth, explore Galilee, and celebrate the Eucharist on the plain where Jesus multiplied the loaves and fishes. We will then travel south to the Mount of the Transfiguration,  through the Judean wilderness to the Dead Sea where we will spend two nights in Kibbutz. While there we will visit Qumran—where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. We will go up to Jerusalem, passing through Jericho to the Mount of Olives. We will spend the next five nights in Jerusalem. From there we will take a day trip to Bethlehem. While in the city we will walk the Via Delarosa—the way of the cross ending our walk at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, site of the crucifixion and burial of Jesus. We will return to Newark on March 10th with experiences to share. The Rev. Bob Solon, Jr. will offer clergy supply on March 4 and 11.

Stop Hunger Now!  Over sixty volunteers have signed up for the food packaging event on February 25th.  Now all we have to do is ante up some cash.  Each meal costs only 25 cents – an incredibly small amount to fill a hungry child’s belly.  Just think:  For $10 you can feed 40 children.  How great is that?!  There will be an ingathering of donations on Sunday, February 19th.  Meanwhile, donations in any amount can be placed in the jug in the Parish Hall.  Checks should be made out to St. John’s Church, with “Stop Hunger Now” in the subject line.

Save The Date: St. John's Spring Boutique:  Parish Hall, Saturday, March 24th, 9 AM - 3 PM.
Contact Person: Lynda Hammond at 201-327-0013.

Name Tags. We wish to thank all parishioners for using their name tags. They are indispensable in helping us to know one another, whether we are new to the parish or have been here for years. The name tags are at both entrances to the church are in alphabetical order. You may take your own or have a greeter help you. It is helpful for you to place the nametag on the communion rail so Fr. Julian can give you  communion by name. If you need a name tag there is a clipboard next to the tags for you to give us your information. A nametag will be prepared for you and available next week. Church school teachers please make sure the children have their nametags and they are wearing them. At the end of the service please leave your name tag in the basket as you leave the church.

Greeters Needed:  A pleasant way to serve on Sunday morning is to greet parishioners as they enter our St. John's doors.   This is a very worthwhile service, as it is especially nice for visitors and newcomers to be properly welcomed to St. John's.  Simple Guidelines  are available.  For further information, please speak to Emmy Bledsoe in Coffee Hour.  Emmy may be contacted by phone at 201-825-0474 or email at        bledsoenj@verizon.net.  Thank you!
